Game-Focus: Quebec’s Largest Video Game News Site
Born 12 years ago by the passion of Frédéric Laroche for video games, Game-Focus is now the biggest videogame news site in Quebec – a French UFO halfway between the United States and Europe.
An ambitious project, Frederick did not hesitate to leave everything behind and run headlong into this adventure.
Today it is not without difficulty that Game-Focus is the leading site, because the site is facing two major problems: 1. the lack of American PR Agencies’ recognition because it is a French site in North America (though also available in English)and 2. the difficulty to make it known to Francophones (65% of them, anyway) because Quebecois agency ads are only visible to Quebecois visitors.
But it would take much more to discourage Frederick. His project has also been chosen by MSN.ca- the second most visited site in Canada dealing with technology. That, in addition to regular TV columns (V TV) and radio programs (NRJ Eastern Quebec and Saguenay Kyk FM), helps to keep Eric motivated.
In numbers, Game-Focus is a team of 15 editors who share the same values and the same guideline – 300 articles per month. The site averages 3000 visitors per day with peaks that can reach 12,000!
And he does all this while keeping the website 100% free to readers. “It’s better than closing down the site to paid subscribers only.” That’s clear! He also refuses directional advertising (as seen on Facebook) and advertisements for online betting sites.
The future of Game-Focus lies in videos – some already online in the GF TV section – and, of course, the continuity of the site’s momentum.
I talked a lot with Frederick and it is likely that you hear of Game-Focus again soon on this site, but shhhhhhh!
As a bonus, an interview with me on the Game-Focus website can be seen here. (French only. Sorry!)
